Well, they look pretty good. Not sure about Paulownia as a body wood, but we'll see.

The Growler will always be legendary thanks to Windows XP:

I wonder if, should I have the opportunity to get one, they'll feel familiar and like home again? I will do my best to at least get my hands on them for a full-on in-depth review. The Classic V looks fantastic!

A Growler means something completely different in these parts and I don't see any photographic representation!

Fantastic! One black pearl Growler, please. Good to see what looks like the original pickup/electronics package, something missing from the last Growler.

Hopefully Gibson actually follow through this time though, these were originally announced a while ago then mysteriously cancelled.

I was in the Gibson Garage last week - to gawp at the Jack Bruce bass - and engaging one of the assistants into the ‘why don’t you ever have many basses in here?’ conversation they said that that was to change very soon!

They told me on the QT that when the shop was fitted out the wall hangers were put in (wrong) immovable places meaning they can’t move the stock around and that they are too close together for basses. They then mentioned there was to be a relaunch of a ‘boutique brand they own’.

I guess I’ll have to pop up and ask to see their Growler soon!

The Spector Euro RSTs with Paulownia bodies are excellent, incredibly lightweight

Ooooooffft, very interesting.

Would love to see a Killer B in 6 string flavour, those were top of my want/need list back in the day.

Pricing is bloody competitive too, I wonder how the build quality will stack up.

So are we saying these are Chinese? Indonesian?

They will be bloomin' expensive in the US if they're Chinese made given recent events...

I guess I'm seeing something different to you guys. All I'm seeing is something that's Cort quality* - including the clearly misnomered premium** gig bag - for TWICE the price.

Or, for the same price, you could get an actual MTD Kingston.

Oh, hang on, wait: 3 free months of lessons in the Gibson App? Fair enough, then 😛

* Not that I'm being disparaging about Cort quality; quite the opposite! It's just that they don't slap £1.5k-2k price tags on their instruments.

** IMO, if a gig bag doesn't have a proper padded handle, it's not premium. End of.

I know Cort does stuff for Ibanez and probably others in a similar price bracket , but,  perhaps unfairly, I think a lot of people will be reluctant to part with £2k for an Indonesian Tobias branded Cort made bass.

Assuming it is Cort of coursr?

I have 2 paulownia basses - my Sandberg Superlight Lionel, and a bitsa with a paulownia body.

They are ace. No problem at all.

Love the Growler, but £1500 for what looks like on the face of it a bass built to the same standard as other sub £800 far east basses in likely the same factory - no ta.

Yep - I just can’t get my head around so many prices anymore; I feel like I woke from a time capsule and the guitar world has gone nuts.

Well…I saw some cort through neck thing at the Birmingham guitar show and that was £1500

so I suppose these are expected to be a bit more expensive…

the shape is the thing on these - they’re very aesthetically appealing.

not sure if the idea of them as a premium brand has been killed off? A lot of time has passed since their heyday.

Also, presumably their website prices are full whack retail, not “street” price.
