Fender Jazz Geddy Lee Signature Bass - Q Serial No, which makes it a 2002-2004 Crafted in Japan 🇯🇵 in excellent condition 

 

Based on Geddy Lee’s 1972 jazz bass it has block inlays, a super thin and easy to play neck, early 70’s decal, currently has black pickguard on but also comes with white pickguard too. Pickups are absolutely fantastic, the quality of the build and sound of these basses is legendary. 
 

Condition is excellent for the year - there’s the odd scratch and small bits of tarnish but nothing I can even photograph really, it looks a couple of years old at a push not a couple of decades! Hasn’t even got buckle rash - really decent nick. BassDirect currently have one in for £899 which has chunks out the finish, this is cheaper and is in much better condition. 
 

Postage is available at cost (£20-25ish) I haven’t got a gigbag or case to send it in, but I have got packaging and a box, I’m sure we’ll be able to sort something. 
 

Delivery: I’m based in Durham but if you don’t want risk it going through the post, as long as you cover the cost of fuel I’ll deliver (although probably not if you live in Plymouth but I’m happy to do a couple hours each way as long as I’m not out of pocket)

It’s ridiculously good - I haven’t played a U.S. one, but I can’t really see where the improvements are to be made?! I saw a Custom Shop Geddy Lee on BassBros recently for almost £6k 😮 apparently only 20 made using leftover necks that were made personally for Geddy Lee (how true that is who knows?) but the whole Geddy line from the MIM ones to Custom shop are just fantastic

I can only do it on bathrooms scales so not super accurate but it’s about 9.5lbs

What’s the difference between the Crafted in Japan and Made in Japan instruments? Was it just a change in wording at some point, or is there a quality difference? Just curious as there’s one of these (in far worse condition) up for sale locally that’s under the MIJ tag.

Basically, from what I can gather on here:

It was MIJ from 1982-1997, then from 1997-2007/08 it was Crafted in Japan, after that it went back to MIJ, but it explains it all on there ☝️ This is a Q Serial No + Crafted in Japan so it means it was made (sorry, crafted!) sometime between 2002-2004.

No difference in quality, I’ve a CIJ and MIJ Mustang Bass and aside from that writing they’re pretty much identical.

What's the neck stability like on these models? I always loved the look of them but had a bad early experience with a super-thin bass neck once which has always made me cautious!

I’ve had no issues at all mate - but welcome to hear others experiences on other MIJ Geddy’s, it’s been spot on for me, never missed a beat and no issues with neck stability at all

This is absurdly cheap. If you lived close by I would buy it off you with the option of buying it back for the same price later on as you might regret this.

 

I have one already (though with a status graphite neck) but try as much as I like I just don’t get on with Jazz basses.

I regret selling basses all the time, so then I just buy another one to cheer myself up 😂 I got this in trade and I’ve reduced it to the least I can justify it owing me so I don’t feel too bad - some mental/mathematical gymnastics but I can just about say it owes me this (in reality it’s £750 tho haha)
