Ampeg SVT Classic - Noisy fan

Hi, 

 

I've got an Ampeg SVT Classic which has a noisy fan, which rattles on startup.

Does anyone know how to get the front panel below the controls off? The only videos I've seen of anyone tackling this shows them going in through the back all the Valves having to come out!

It is held in place with velcro tabs and is fairly tight. Probably the best bet is to remove the preamp from the  front (not fully as it will be held by cables to the power amp) which should give you enough room to pull the front  fan panel off. Alternatively rather than remove the valves it may be possible to get a stick from the rear to push the panel off?

Tip I had was to undo one of the screws holding the ampeg logo in slightly.  Get a towel/cloth round the exposed screw then use some pliers to pull it
