Why do adverts such as the one above have to use crudity. It certainly put me off from interest in SWR products and I'm sure there must be more of us of the same mind. 🤯

I think it's only crude because it's a reference to the character in the movie and the 11 being louder than 10 thing. You might be looking at this a little too hard :)

Well bill I'll be eighty in January! I still can remember my "horny" times! LOL

I just don't see the need for such to advertise a bass amp. Besides which the amp I use is capable of 2000W. LOL

Considering the target audience I'd say the ad is spot on.

I'm 75 but I haven't forgotten what got me started doing this when I was 15, and it wasn't trying to impress my parents.

I think I have seen the original advert. You have at least heard of photoshop?

Indeed I have but thought the whole movie was silly and in bad taste!  I certainly have no interest in seeing it again! LOL

Go watch Eurovision The Movie. It's silly, campy, in marginal taste, but funny and very well done.

I was going to recommend Pink Flamingoes. I'll check Eurovision, hadn't heard of that.

Oh, you know, humour. If it traumatised you, go and lie down in a darkened room for a bit and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Yup.

It's a gain structure issue; the 'preamps' simply supply insufficient gain to be able to drive the power amps to full output because as was said earlier, they're designed to drive the instrument input of a conventional bass amp or head.

Likewise, it could be an issue with many people being reluctant to actually turn the gain control up enough. I've seen many who erroneously believe that turning the control past 12 o'clock (some have told me 9 or 10) will cause damage to something.

This is probably better described by@agedhorse earlier but... To get maximum voltage transfer, the input impedance of the amp should be at least ten times the output impedance of the preamp. A bass head will traditionally in the region of 1 Meg ohm or one million ohms. In that case, the 12K output impedance of the Sadowsky is fine. As it is, you are losing approx 1/2 the voltage output by your preamp due to the low input impedance of the Sumo.

You could connect half the balanced DI output on the XLR. Although you would lose half the output, -6dB, you would regain it due to the lower impedance and if we assume that the DI output is at line level, it will be much higher. This assumes that the DI output is at a professional line level, 0-4dB.

Quite right. I didn't notice that the only way the Sadowsky pre can deliver the required low impedance output is with the XLR output, while the Sumo doesn't have an XLR input, a curious omission. For that matter the high impedance of the Sadowsky 1/4" output is very unusual.

And this is WHY a full set of specs is so helpful. There are very few products in the bass/guitar world that provide this necessary information, which requires an unhealthy amount of guessing to arrive at a solution.  Then again, it's also necessary to understand the specs.

Yeeeeeeeees, it does make it tough to do detailed high quality video reviews for public consumption when you have to chase down technical details, lol. I’ve been lucky with most companies. One brand’s technical design team let me in to some inside information once and the marketing team may not have been so happy with that. But, I agree with you, this information helps musicians be informed and in that case I liked the product even more because I could trust the specifications.

I’d like to see brands adopting at least a standard for measuring, say, true output, power handling and, I chuckle when I think about ole car magazines advertising ICE in thousands of what’s PMPO 😁
