FS: Ashdown Drophead 200 fliptop combo

Describing this monster as a combo is like describing Live at Leeds as a gig, but both are technically correct!

Selling because it's quite simply too big for the space I have, and I if I need big at gigs I use my Mesa rig. This to me is the dream unit for a studio where a classic but powerful all tube bass amp is needed, for a gigging player who doesn't mind humping around what is a pretty heavy unit (I keep the head in a separate case to reduce the weight), or for the home music room assuming you don't have neighbours......

Tone is glorious as you'd expect

This is the head, I'll get the cab from the studio and post pics later today, it's equally retro and shiny :)

I have priced this very competitively - one sold on Reverb for over twice this a couple of years back - so there'll be no haggling please. It would also need to be collection from my place or meet up by arrangement 👍

Something I dreamt owning, but, despite being retired, having no real need, my ‘Wanty’ head is breaking through the myriad of common sense that says ‘No’ .

Absolute bargain!

Thanks @petecarlton, it is. A couple of folks have asked if I'd sell the head only and it's a categorical no, I'm only selling the Drophead because I need the space being taken by the cab, if anything I'd happily sell just the cab and keep the head :)

Better a strong back than lightweight gear. Other opinions are available 👍

Ok I’m tempted… does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to get such a thing hauled across England to north Wales?!

And are they just styled after the B15, or are going for that sound as well?

I just shipped an ampeg pf50t and cab from south coast to newcastle, and it arrived quickly in one piece, that feels like a very similar cargo to this one. Used Proovia and it cost about £60, stated the item as a speaker cabinet and covered it in a shipping blanket and cardboard.

I almost bought a Pf20T and cab today but it fell through. I had one, liked it and really regret selling it. Has anybody used the Ashdown and Ampeg? Is the Ashdown a clear step up? The one thing I’d really miss on the Ashdown is the ability to use the Ampeg as a very posh DI without the cab.

Sorry this is a significantly larger and heavier unit than the Ampeg and is not being shipped

I have both, the Ampeg does the Ampeg thing, this does the Ashdown thing, rounder, fuller, fatter, and louder. This would be a very big DI 👍

Thanks,

Yeah, I was thinking it would be much bigger than the Ampeg. If I were to buy it would be to stay in the studio (and to entice bass players to the studio! Although the V4B does a decent job of that too!)

I think I’ll pass though, good luck!

If you have a V4B in your studio you don’t need this unless you’re looking for a pretty subtle variation on the same thing albeit a bit louder. Like the V4B this stays clean a lot longer than the PF20/PF50, and while this is rated at 200w against the V4B’s 100, in real terms there’s not a lot in it 👍
