NancyJohnson Posted Tuesday at 15:44 Posted Tuesday at 15:44 Yeah, yeah. Guitar stuff. I'm just looking for advice on anyone that has a standalone guitar cab, 1x12 (or smaller). It's only going to be used at home and for home recording...I have a Fender Pugilist distortion (which works great on bass as well when going direct into an interface) and a Harley Benton GPA-100. Don't want to spend a fortune, so used is probably the way to go. I'm not entirely certain whether an existing (bass) cabinet would be fit for purpose (I have a pair of Darkglass 1x12s). It seems the better deals are for loaded cabs (and to be honest, without a bit of investigation, I wouldn't really know what to load it with). Advice, please! Quote
tauzero Posted Tuesday at 16:06 Posted Tuesday at 16:06 It's worth having a look at Glenn Fricker's Spectre Sound Studios videos on Youtube. They're from a metal perspective but should still be relevant across a broad spectrum of rock guitar. He's very complimentary about the Harley Benton cabs, mainly because of the drivers that they use. Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted Tuesday at 17:34 Posted Tuesday at 17:34 You won't get a good guitar tone from a bass cab, at least not if you plan to overdrive it. It's tough to beat a Celestion Greenback. 2 Quote
Dan Dare Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Bill's advice is good. If money's really tight, a Celestion Vintage 30 is a decent choice (they are what is used in the Harley Benton cabs tauzero refers to above). A bit brighter and slightly less full/mature sounding than the Greenback, but a good driver. Quote
FugaziBomb Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Smaller cabs tend to sound "boxier" than larger ones. When looking for a cab, try to find something more rectangular than square. Think like a Deluxe Reverb or AC15. I recently got a Monoprice 15 watt (would be branded as a Harley Benton in the UK) and it definitely suffers from it's small cabinet design. Quote
