SteveXFR Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I'm thinking of buying a second bass and thought it would be nice to get something British or at least European. What are the options up to £1500, 4 string & long scale. I'm open to any pickup configuration Quote
Sean Posted April 2 Posted April 2 A used Spector Euro 4 LX. Thank you very much for your message. We have now closed your ticket after resolving the issue beyond reproach. Next! 2 2 Quote

Cato Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) I've never played one but I've been interested in PJD's skinny string offerings for a while. They're manufactured in the UK. They only seem to offer 1 bass model at the moment but there's a few pickup options available. https://www.pjdguitars.com/product-page/st-john-bass Just under the £1500 Edited April 2 by Cato Quote
Sean Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) 17 minutes ago, SteveXFR said: Aren't Spector American? Spector Euro Series instruments are made in Czech Republic to very high standards. Such high standards, in fact, that Spector describe them as "production versions" of the custom shop basses. US brand, Euro manufacture. There's more than a few members here that will stand by the quality of Euro Spectors. Edited April 2 by Sean 3 Quote

itu Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Sei, Overwater, ACG... I would go through the sales ads here. 3 Quote
Sean Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Seriously, I would ask, what are you looking for in a bass? Once you understand what kind of bass you're looking for, you can then start looking at manufacturers. 4 strings, 34" is a very wide scope. Quote

Not natural finish. Not single cut. No narrower than a modern jazz neck. Lighter than a Peavey T40 Edited April 2 by SteveXFR Quote

It says "showroom model with slight traces of use". Well, it must have spent a very long time in that showroom as MTD stopped making the Grendel a long time ago. More than 20 years ago, in 2002, I think. Not sure you could still call that "New Old Stock", maybe more "Vintage New Old Stock" 😉 https://www.station-musicshop.de/epages/64398533.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64398533/Products/3253 1 Quote

Bolo Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Maruszczyk, Mayones, Menzinger, De Gier Just to name a few more European brands. Good luck finding them for your budget though. 1 Quote
TrevorR Posted April 3 Posted April 3 (edited) Another vote for Sandberg. My Wals haven’t been out of their cases since I got this in January! Edited April 3 by TrevorR 1 Quote
SumOne Posted April 3 Posted April 3 (edited) Perhaps one of these ACGs as a 4? I'm quite keen to get this 5 myself: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/acg-047s-j-type-5-34-greenburst-pre-owned/ They are about £1,700 new, but in your price range second hand. For the 5, I like the string spacing, preamp, tuners, weight, and the look of it, (and I always like a front facing jack but active preamp - quite a rare to find though), I would like to give it a play to check the pickups and ergonomics though and how the neck feels. I'm not too fussed that it's UK made, but I suppose it is a bit of a selling point, and nice to have something a bit more rare than a production line fender/ibanez etc. Edited April 3 by SumOne Quote

I was in Bass Direct two days ago and tried it. It sounded really nice. 1 1 Quote
