I have a P bass that I've owned for some time now and never had this issue before, so why would it suddenly happen?

It's not a slight buzz, it's a full blown rattle, I've checked with a metal straight edge over the three frets (6, 7, & 8), and there is no rocking, so they appear to be level.

I've tried filing the next fret a little bit, I've tried adjusting the truss rod, and I've tried altering the bridge height, all to no avail.

Any ideas on why I suddenly have fret buzz on just one fret?

Thanks in advance.

Have you changed the string?

I've just tried a couple of different strings and there's still a buzz, so I've just put a straight edge over the frets again and I think I've found a slight wobble, so I'm going to get the file out again to see if I can fix it.

Tread very carefully, as it's easy to effectively move the problem along the board. Literally do a couple of strokes of the files and keep on checking for rocking on the adjacent frets. Also make sure that the fret that you suspect is causing the problem, is actually seated in properly. Sometimes all that is required is a gentle tap with a light weight hammer.
