miles'tone Posted April 7 Posted April 7 (edited) Really pleased with this new (to me) family member. I swapped my Jet P locally for it. I installed Gotoh Resolite GB528 tuners to get rid of the nasty neck dive, and a set of Labella MUS flats. The laurel fingerboard came up nice with some boiled linseed oil and I've set it up to my preferences (after sorting one high fret). It looks small but sounds big! Such a breeze to play too. Every note rings true. I expected the pickup to be the letdown from what I've read but it sounds great as is. Also, it works better with my pedals than the Jet (not that the Jet was bad or anything). I'm a happy Chatter. Edited April 7 by miles'tone 19 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I sold mine in a fit of “but the next one will the The One”. It wasn’t, and I sold that, too! I do regret the sale of the Mustang. I put a mint guard on mine - looked lush! Cue me looking for another oly white Mustang… 1 Quote

HeadlessBassist Posted April 7 Posted April 7 That's really nice. Congrats! Has it got the same Japanese split coil with the reverse thread height adjustment screws as the Mexican/American ones? I bought a used American Performer Mustang a couple of weeks ago and love it. It's a perfect tonic to play as house bass player at a Sunday jam I do after a long distance Saturday tribute show with a Jazz strapped to me for two hours. 1 Quote

No, it has it's own "Fender designed" alnico pickup which is the smaller than Japanese vintage size (40mm across each side rather than 44mm). It sounds great as long as I dial the tone pot back about 60%. That's where 'that tone' lives. I find it a bit too harsh sounding wide open, but maybe that's just me. Congrats on your Performer! Mustangs are great aren't they? I wish I'd tried one earlier, such fun to play. I love the strong fundamental and lack of overtones. Suits me just fine. Quote

Thanks - yes, I've really grown very fond of it. I hesitated for a while, as I had one of the Custom Shop designed Rascals about ten years ago and it didn't fit, which put me off short scales, but the Mustang has that just right feeling. And as Nick Campbell Destroys said in the promo video for Guitar Center, it really does sound like an angry Jazz bass when everything is dimed. Happy Mustang-ing! 1 Quote
