NigeJ Posted Wednesday at 09:23 Posted Wednesday at 09:23 Morning, just been diagnosed with Dupuytrens Contracture in my left hand little finger Not far advanced at the moment..... Fortunately Im a left handed player who uses a plectrum....😄 Anyone else have this, and has it affected your playing? Quote
gjones Posted Wednesday at 09:56 Posted Wednesday at 09:56 (edited) I woke up one morning, about a year ago, with my middle finger on my right hand curled in and it took a while to unlock. After a bit of googling I assumed that Dupuytrens Contracture was the problem. Having had carpal tunnel, I was aware that prevention is better than cure. So since that morning I have taped my middle finger up to prevent it curling into my palm. If I don't go to sleep with the tape on my finger the issue returns (although over the year it has got much milder - probably because of the tape). It can get very bad if you do nothing, which would then necessitate an operation which might, or might not, be successful. Edited Wednesday at 09:57 by gjones 1 Quote
NigeJ Posted Wednesday at 10:03 Author Posted Wednesday at 10:03 Yeah, the specialist mentioned surgery down the line. Hopefully it won't get that bad, but it doesn't look like it'll clear up on its' own. Quote
snorkie635 Posted Wednesday at 10:09 Posted Wednesday at 10:09 Sorry to hear that Nige. Both the guitarist and the drummer in my old band have this condition. Good luck and keep a close eye on it. Quote

During the day it doesn't bother me but at night I obviously curl my finger up and it can be difficult to straighten out in the morning (although it has got better over the year I've used the splint). Ill have a go, see if it helps, cheers. 1 Quote
