snorkie635 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 This bass is not exactly an Alembic, but it is my son's very first one he got as a sprog. It used to sound not too bad for what it is, but then the strings gave out. It's currently strung with some short-scale brand (forgotten which), but the E string sounds really awful - dead and lifeless. The strings it originally had from the factory all sounded fine and I wonder if any of you chaps and chapesses out there have any thoughts on what might work? As you can see, it's a 27" length from ball-end to nut (oo-er!), and no doubt, lighter strings might help solve the 'dead' E string problem. Any suggestions gratefully received. Obs, this is purely for sentimental reasons. 🥹 Images for scale length and comparison to a normal sized Jazz (I know the wee one is a P.) Thanks in advance. 1 Quote

LeftyJ Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Ibanez always sell a 28.6" set, for their Mikro basses (GSRM20). Quote

MichaelDean Posted Thursday at 15:13 Posted Thursday at 15:13 I'd also recommend Newtone strings. They'll make something up to order. They might cost a bit more, but the custom gauge strings on my Dingwall are still sounding good 8 months later. 1 1 Quote
lemmywinks Posted Friday at 17:00 Posted Friday at 17:00 Try this with a regular set, prob best with a cheap/used set first just so you don't ruin an expensive pack! 1 1 Quote
