hpc364 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Hi ! I would like to know if you have ever used tape nylon strings, I would like to know your opinion about them. Edited April 12 by hpc364 Quote
keeponehandloose Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I had a set of black tapewound, Rotosound I think.. quite a dark sound to them. I would say they were medium tension. Quote
Obrienp Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I put LaBella black nylon strings on a large bodied fretless acoustic (Guild) and they suited it extremely well. It was short scale and they had the right amount of tension to prevent it from being too slappy but still give a bit of that upright sound. That’s where they excel IMO: fretless and acoustic basses. However, that’s based on one set of LaBellas, I haven’t tried any other makes and I haven’t tried them on a fretted bass. Quote
hpc364 Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 I've got a bright sound (Pyramid), sometimes it sounds like a fretless bass because there is a lot of sustain. Quote
gjones Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) Yes I have. They do give a very retro 60s sound and can mimic a double bass quite well. They sound good, if you want need that type of sound. The Rotosound ones only come in one gauge which is pretty gigantic - the E is 115. Which means most nuts don't fit them very well. This means that, unless you file your nut to fit them, they'll give you quite a high action. Edit: of course this is on an electric. I haven't tried them on an acoustic bass Edited April 12 by gjones Quote

Sorry, didn’t notice that this was in the EUB and Double bass section, in which case my comments above are irrelevant. Have to say, I didn’t know they did nylon tapes for upright. They must cost a fortune! Quote
