I think after lots of searching for a cheap replacement, I’ll keep an eye out for a Gotoh 404BO (or possibly SJ model) - which is in keeping with the whole “MIJ” thing. Gotoh came back with some tech specs, if it’s helpful for anyone else. Minimum string height on these bridges is 11mm for the SJ (Steel saddle) and 10.5mm for the BO (Brass saddle) models.

I think that's what the bridge I have is a clone of, no roller saddles but it has the one piece rear block (I think) like the original bridge. Will grab a pic tonight when I'm back home if you're interested.

Right Mr @Dood here's that bridge, I've given it a quick clean as it's been sat in a drawer for years! I've no use for it so if you want it for a tenner or something just let me know, it has screws.

Mazak and Zamak are more popularly kniwn as 'monkey metal' in engineering circles. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Mazak rot, or zinc pest, plagues the model railway world. Specific models from specific manufacturers are known for it. Hornby's Class 31 diesels suffer badly from it, within certain eras of manufacturing, with all sorts of bizarre expansion and warping causing the locos to destroy themselves.

When I moved into my house the windows all locked internally with stubby metal keys. These must have suffered from mazak rot over time as several of them were too, errr, tumescent to fit in the locks and the paint had spalled off them. At least two of them snapped off in the locks. Cheap nasty pot metal.
