Has anyone used Gear Up Music?

Has anyone used or had dealings with Gear Up Music?

 

They are based in London's Covent Garden, and seem to offer an easy way of selling instruments.  

  

Email, valuation,  post the item to them,  get the money via bank transfer.  I am tempted to try them.  

 

However, before I do, has anyone tried them?

Not used them but neither would I without a whole lot more than three reviews

Not so much just three reviews but they all look like they have been written by a daytime TV funeral insurance advertising copywriter.

There are some genuine looking reviews on Facebook, all positive. I think they sound interesting, maybe worth a punt for something of moderate value.

I would take that Covent Garden address with a pinch of salt.

 

The address is very familiar to me as I have dealt with various companies and charities that use it.

It's an office complex that offers all sorts of services from postal boxes, to hot desking, meeting rooms up to shared office space.

Its in Manchester, but they offer a fair enough price…

£600 for a 2005 MIM P Bass is the upper limit of acceptable. £450 for an Epiphone Thunderbird is a bit perverse?

That is a Classic Pro T-bird - proper neck thru with Gibson USA TB+ pickups. No longer in production. It's top book price but I'd hardly call it "a bit perverse".

Thanks! I didn't know Epiphone offered a T-bird with these sorts of specs. It probably out guns a few Gibson T-birds I've played over the years.

Well, the current Thunderbird 64 model (previously known as Vintage Pro then 60s) will knock your socks off - full 9 ply neck thru (7 ply on the Vintage Pro/60s), chrome pickup covers (and excellent pickups underneath), separate bridge and tailpiece. It's probably the best Thunderbird Gibson never made. Slightly biased because I own one, of course...

 

Yes, @NancyJohnson the body/neck shape's on the wonk - but I can sympathise; I haven't been around for quite as long as the T-bird but my body is definitely wonky after all this time too

Yes - a quick tour of the area with Google Maps showed an anonymous office, rather than a vibrant guitar shop.

Yes, and even the 100 "proper" Google reviews are suspiciously well-written. Capital letters, full stops, sentences.  

 

I guess the question is "is basschat willing to risk my bass guitars on the company?"

 

Hmmm. I might contact them tomorrow.
