according to this story Roger Daltry instigated it because all he could hear was boob boom boom, seeing as they use in ears surely it's the sound man they should be getting rid of

The Who are still going??

I imagine the truth is that he started trying to have a say in things, been the downfall of many a non-original member, no matter how talented or long-standing

He doesn't seem too devastated

He put this up on his social wotsits a few days before the official announcement

Seems reasonable given Moon was known for his underplaying 👍

Can't imagine them with a flamboyant, enthusiastic drummer. Wouldn't suit them at all.

f*** me you couldn't make this sort of shit up.....

He's been with them 29 f***ing years, for context that's twice as long as Moon was. And yes, as above, if the sound's shit you don't fire the drummist (unless the drummist deliberately went Boom Boom Boom because he wants to be fired so that he can pick up the Oasis gigs this summer of course......)

Tribute Band Replaces Drummer

Daltry needs to go back to acting

Yep, I think when a rock singer stops a song live on stage to moan about the drummer being too load it's long past the time to hang up the mic and find a decent sitcom that'll have to (sounds like he'd make a decent Victor Meldrew?).

And re Daltrey not being the main writer, when you listen to Townshend's demos for the early 70's stuff - specifically Quadrophenia and Who's Next - you can't escape the sense that in many of those great songs Townshend's vocals are at least the equal of Daltrey's also....

All of these bands should have packed it in decades ago. Surely they could pass an Act of Parliament or something. How long can the agony be allowed to continue? It's like watching a geriatric Arthur Askey break his hip trying to disco dance for the amusement of his fellow care home residents.

Would be nice if they replaced Zak with Dr David Starkey, right-wing constitutional historian. I don't think he can play the drums ( that would probably  Daltrey fine) but he could give the audience some very insightful observations about the cultural context of songs like My Generation and Won't Get Fooled Again while Roger and Pete have their Tena pants changed during the interval.

Too much boom boom drums, we’ll sack the monitor/IEM engineer. Too much overplaying, Rog, it’s The Who, you used to have Moon The Loon on the sticks!

I think they keep going out of fear of dying if they stop. They need something to keep them going  and people keep buying tickets.

My parents saw The Who back in the early 2000's and said they were past it then.

I think most stars fear obscurity more than they fear death. However deprecating they are of fame and all it brings, they couldn't cope with not being somebody special anymore.

I was going to say this.

I have never liked the Who and (from what I have read) Daltry sounds like a tool.

But I got a free ticket to see them in Cardiff in 2006 (with Pino, I think as Entwistle had died) and they were really, really good.
