visog Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Just saw this reel of our Swedish Maestro showcasing his Fender basses with some shred. Fretless with a pick! Sacrilege! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIatPEWJUpi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link 1 Quote
Marky L Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Would be interesting to hear that amplified and see if it is just a clusterf**k of twiddly twaddle. Fretless with a pick.. uhmmm.. well.. 1 Quote
visog Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago I think he does play the bass on many of his records... Here's UK's 'In the Dead of Night' where he nails the line. Quote

odysseus Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I loved a lot of his earlier stuff - fantastic guitar technique. I lost interest later as the songs weren't as good (to me, anyway) and live he just seemed to solo through everything. He always had the reputation as having an enormous ego, but I watched his interview with Rick Beato and really enjoyed it. I think it was Steve Vai who said something along the lines of 'say what you like, but Yngwie raised the bar for all of us' 1 Quote
Lord Sausage Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago He plays fretless on a lot of his stuff. There is some shredding on this I think. Quote

Here's Paul Gilbert shredding on a double bass... https://youtu.be/lGm4yTUAgWE?si=39-yzgTlwRW_5JdL 1 Quote

Sacrilege! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIatPEWJUpi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Sounds like he needs a good bass tech as everything is sounding exactly like a too straight neck and a too low action especially as he has not a soft touch at all, so it ends up like this: an awful rattling mess. 2 Quote
Lord Sausage Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) He'll have it low to shred more easily Edited 14 hours ago by Lord Sausage 1 Quote

It would rank in my top 5 worse sessions. However he knew his stuff on Stracocasters and would talk to me about how to date them from the number of scratch plate screws or the type of neck plate. He also had a stunning Swedish girlfriend at the time. Which was nice... Edited 14 hours ago by Buddster 4 2 Quote

The original is Prog's last gasp of the 70's and is vintage Holdsworth. Entry point for many Holdsworth fans. Just a great song to start then Holdsworth raises the tension to unbearable levels before the release - killing! 1 1 Quote

Lord Sausage Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago One thing I love about Holdsworth is how fellow genius players like Vai or Van Halen say they don't understand it. It is totally unique. Quote
