I got mine a few weeks ago, it's a great bass. I understand it's the best selling Fender Signature model, and not without good reason.

They can be had for under £500 off ebay, Peter Cooks are still advertising them for £610 (but never have stock... :) ).

They sound great, and have one of the truly great Jazz necks, it's a joy to play.

Mine is a little grubby, a few dings here and there, but it exudes solidity and feels like a bass that will just go on getting better.

There was some talk of early models having hardware problems, but this one (a 1996 I think) has no problems at all.

I confess to always wanting one because Geddy Lee was responsible for me picking up a bass in the first place (not to mention some truly awful caterwauling), but after playing a Warwick Thumb 5 for 20 years and currently owning an NS Stick and a Squire VMJ Fretless, I really can't see where the extra bucks went in the Warwick or the Chapman.

Buy one, don't even think about it.

It just seems to be so easy to play and feels so comfortable when holding it.

Go buy one, I am sure you will not regret it :)[/quote]

Yer I thought they were soooo fast when i played them

I got mine for 400 off of ebay. It was used but it absolutely mint condition.
No matter what bass i own i always end up going back to the geddy, it's my main bass and will be for years.

Cheers,
Dan

I had someone recently describe basses under a grand to me as old bangers, sometimes they can be good but most of the time they're just not that good and a waste of time. Really dont think thats true at all.

Yep I have one too and its a great bass... I sold my usa deluxe jazz bass to get it and I prefer it.

Obviously the maple neck is its main selling point, but the balance when standing with it is perfect.

Although I would say that the tuners could be slightly better and there is a small buzz when I play an Eb, but even the extra cost of a pro set up and some hipshots would still make this bass a bargain and would definately make it perfect.

IMO buy one!

I love the Ged's also but for the price they're going for new Fender should put nice tuners on and chuck the ceramic pups for true Alnico's. Buy used an Upgrade!

I played a new one a few weeks ago and though it was good I thought it was a bit expensive at £749 so I got a classic 60`s jazz instead which suits me perfectly. Definatley keep your eye open for a secondhand one. At £400-£500 it`s a bargain and you wont be disapointed. The guy from Crowded house and the guy from the Killers use them as their main squeeze.

I played one in the USA two summers ago and I f2cking loved it. Budgetary restrictions meant I didn't actually land one until earlier this year and pound for pound, it's a wonderful bass.

That said, it isn't my main bass. That honour goes to a DJ5. :)

Sorry to blag your post a bit, but dont you just hate that. You sell a bass and as soon as the guy drives off you miss it and want it back! When I sold my g&l recentley the guy sent me a text the next day raving about how fantastic it is. Bummer!

I bought mine when they first came out. I payed $599.99 new @ musiciansfriend, no case, no gigbag at that time. I bought a nice fender
vintage tweed to put it in. I must say for the money it is a great buy, I am not a MIJ fan, nor a fender fan, but for some small cash it is
a nice bass.
You have to play a few of them, some have very thin necks, almost too thin, I found one perfect for me just out of luck.
The part I do not like is in the add, which may have changed now but it lists this bass as " Bound maple neck "
Cheap or not, if you say it is bound then it is bound, with binding. Unfortunately it is a painted line that "bounds the neck"
On the treble side of my bass's neck almost has the binding worn off. HHMM.
No biggy, plays great, sounds great, the keep going up in price, they missed the boat from the start.
Yet it is much better made then my U.S.A Gibson Alex lifeson es-355, total scam from the start, Look where the
volute starts on that guitar, I want a speed bump at every frett. $3800.00 bucks and there is better quality in a $700.00 PRS or
a $600 mij fender.
