Some Great T-Bone in action HERE

Great performance, great gig, what a day. Still made about the girl I spent that day with (13/7/85).

Hall and Oates - same here! Same era (possibly the same gig?) and largely to appease my girlfriend I went to one of their concerts and, by the end of the night, was a huge fan. T Bone was largely the reason why - he must be one of the best bassists I have seen play. Nothing flash but always great. Plus their then guitarist GE Smith - mad as a fish but what a player! And I am still mad about the girl I went with - and she is still my wife (ahh, ain't that sweet)

He has been mentioned in passing but I think Roger Glover is also one of my top bassists to listen to/watch. His work during the Deep Purple MkII era especially - Made in Japan is hard to beat as live albums go.
I know that using a plectrum on a bass is generally a taboo amoungst pro bassists
Been a pro bassist for 20 yrs, think picks are great in the right place, never encountered another pro bass playing colleague who would consider it wrong (and I know loads).

Scott Thunes plays dynamite bass with a pick.
as does (on ocassion) Anthony Jackson...
I'm sure there are others.

Brilliant idea: pick v. non-pick, solo bass, slap, theory/reading, Jeff Berlin, Victor Wooten etc.

Loving that Steve Swallow Quintet vid, some quirky stuff in there!!

Try Gabriel Nelson of 'Cake', great bassist, mostly a pick player and comes up with some real nice bubbly lines!
Helmut Hattler from German band Kraan is great with a pick. There's some great stuff on you tube:
Yeah, HeLLmut Hattler, of course! Even more fascinating with his main project called HATTLER! :)

Not sure anyone has mentioned Lee Jackson (The Nice, Refugee, Jackson Heights)
I saw Refugee a couple of times at the Marquee in Wardour St and IIRC he was using a blonde RIC 4001.
Here's Refugee and some Prog-rock riffery on the OGWT with Jackson on a rather nice all-black 4001. (Bass close-ups from around 1:27 :)).

Yeh, Refugee was Jackson's project. (His own answer to Emerson, Lake & Palmer).
Just to expand a little -
He 'discovered' and brought in Swiss keyboard wiz Patrick Moraz (who later went on to join Yes).
Drummer Brian Davison was Jackson's band-mate from The Nice.
I remember the gigs at The Marquee where, among Moraz' array of keyboards, he also had
a double-size metal bedframe complete with springs, up-ended, and fitted with contact mics.
He would hit this with his hand(s) and send thunderous reverberations through the PA. Crazy, man! :)
It looked odd but was pretty effective.
Anyone else remember seeing Refugee at all?

Steve

just spotify'd this (cos I'm starting to get into extreme and I'm well cool)

MAN THIS SONG IS AWESOME!!! XD I want to marry that tone!

EDIT

In search of his tone, I have turned up this recent pic.

What bass is he using? Theres no mark on the headstock, and I know very little about different basses.

I can't be certain, but Pat Badger used to work for Mouradian Guitars, and actually built the basses he used to use before Extreme originally split up. The headstock on that bass in your picture certainly looks like a Mouradian to me, but the body of the bass is very different to his old ones.
This picture is a Mouradian like Pats old ones (Chris Squire from Yes plays a green one that was also built by Pat) :
