I hope Chris doesn't mind me adding to his thread rather than starting a new one...I just thought it'd be OK as I was on the course with him last week.

Hey guys, sorry about the final update delay, went straight to sound check last night and played a gig, unfortunately not on the new girl as we didn't quite get to finish up the electronics and set up.

I had a great week, a fantastic experience and it was great seeing these guitars come together with all the hard work.

Thanks to Mikey for posting the victory dance photos, i've completed the facebook album now too;

I'm looking forward to dropping in the right EQ and getting the setup and finish just right. I thoroughly recommend the course to anyone, you can't have less woodworking experience than me and I managed it!

Cheers all

All three basses look great, nice one people!

I'm trying to persuade my brother in law he wants to come and do this next year with me :)

The bass is looking really good. I was thinking of doing the course and was going to build almost the exact same thing!

One quick question, do you end up using a lot of the big power tools to get things done (bandsaw, table saw, planer etc) or do you use more hand tools and hand held power tools?[/quote]

It was a mixture of both. the main templates were cut out on the bandsaw then hand-routed to shape. equally using band/bobbin sanders on the rougher cuts, then sanding by hand. It's possible with hand held power tools and hand tools, but it'll take longer.

Hope that helps.

After a year of pretty heavy gigging and writing, we're off to the studio and I decided I wanted to try a fretless. So I've defretted this neck, with some instruction and guidance from Jon.

The process was quite simple and the finish is great. I just need a bit of reconstruction and then its ready!

Great looking basses, how easy are these to do? are you really heavily supervised or can he rescue it if you balls it? I have been toying with doing this for a couple of years but have no woodworking experience.

Going in the studio this weekend with the band. I think it's going to sound great on the slow stuff.

As for the question about the course, each step is demonstrated then Jon checks on your progress, working round the group. I had a brilliant time I'd recommend it to anyone. I had zero wood working experience when I started.
