Metalmoore
I might sound like a complete idiot for asking but I gotta ask... eBay sell alot of neck plates but which do I buy? There are some for a quid and some for more and what I am unsure of is if I do buy a cheap one will it do any damage to the bass/sound/anything else important. What I mean is how I know which one is high quality... PS I know this might not read very well so I apologise ahead.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Its just a bit of chrome plated steel. If its the right size it'll work just as well as any other. Standard 4 hole Fender-sized ones will work on guitars & basses. No functional difference between a 99p no-name or one off a squier affinity strat and a £400 one off a 1952 tele. I like the 70s style 'F' logo fender ones though and will probably get one for my CIJ mustang - but only for logo - the plain one on it already does the job just as well. Mr. Foxen
The cheapies aren't flat and have ridges around the holes and edges that can mark your bass, the good ones are ground flat on the back.
Mr.T
Genuine Fender plates are only about £15 with the screws. Personally, I wouldn't use a 99p plate... decent chrome doesn't come cheap. Also, with a branded item you know the screws will be of reasonable quality (hopefully). Can you imagine the hassle of a broken or rounded off screw?
