I have a 4X15 Acoustic cab (a la Jaco) that I bought in 1980 that should give a fair degree of trouser flap.

I haven't used it for 15 years because I can't afford a crane to get it in to the van.
The one with the speakers in the middle facing eachother = Doom is it for sale?

As for rig plan, point is, all but three Caricatures gigs were without PA support for bass, so were running off backline. We brought our own totally awesome sound engineer, but had to work with what we had. Suspect new project will be similar.

Thats the one. Two forward facing with a port in the middle, and the other two facing each other below and above the port.

No, sorry, it isn't for sale. If I win some money, I am going to employ a couple of personal roadies and use it. :)

If nothing else, my ear wax problem will be resolved.
I'd bridge a power amp into one or two Big Subs. No point bothering with a head when power amps get you more power for less money and the extra internal volume per driver of the Big One/Sub adds a lot of sensitivity in the lows. I'd recommend a power amp with high pass filter set at somewhere between 30 and 40Hz, that way you can push the cab(s) really hard without the driver bottoming out.

A +1 to using High pass filters. (As I do on my QSC)
Not only does it stop the drivers trying to produce stupidly low frequencies which are of little real world use, but it also effectively conserves amplifier power by keeping it confined to an appropriate bandwidth...
