BassJase Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 After recently spending some time testing out how I feel with lighter gauge strings, I've decided that they're for me so i'm flogging off some sets of standards so I can buy some lighter ones. All are obviously brand new and unopened. All prices include P+P, and would possibly trade for any decent brand of light-ish gauge strings (except Elites or Rotosounds.) D'Addario XL Coated, .50/.70/.85/105 (Officially titled EXP160's) 3x sets of, £14. ben_eat_pie Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 What's wrong with Elites? I share the same opinion, lighter strings are nicer - just curious as to why you do like them, as I havn't really tried any other strings! Cheers
Gareth Hughes Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Would you be interested in a trade for a set of D'Addario Chromes (Flatwounds) ECB80SL Set Super Long Scale 40-95? I'm going the other direction from you, having loved light gauge strings for years, I'm now loving heavier strings.

I started out on Rotosounds...there wasn't really anything else. Moved over to Elites after many years and after a while the quality control really dipped...they didn't last very long at all and sounded flat quickly. Met Jason Howe at a trade show and he gave me some Rotosounds to try and they were just lousy. Went back to Elites and then moved onto D'Addarios. Consistently good. Nice, bright and long-lasting. They boil up well too. P

Thanks anyway though To be honest I just don't like the tone of Elites, they sound a little too "brittle" for my liking, not a very nice bass response to my ears, and I just hate the feel of Roto's. They sound ok, but they feel like your playing a rusty cheese grater to me. And they seem to die waaaay too quickly for the price.

Been on D'addario for about 5 years now, Elites before that, until they went meh and Roto's before that until I realised they ain't that special!
