Mr. Foxen
Have my eye on a big valve slave amp and I'll need some sort of preamp for it. It has XLR ins in the front. Right now I have the XLR out on my Sansamp programmable BDDI which I think should do it fnie. But what other options do I have? All the valve amp/cab sim of the BDDI seems a bit wasted. I don't need vast amounts of effects/tone shaping, and am not determined to have an all valve path.
alexclaber
Fire-damaged Avalon U5. Doom-heavy and if some of the innards are burnt out so should be the tone. Alex
Mr. Foxen
That would cost me the same as the amp; overdraft Doom. Seems a lot of scratch for a small box with few knobs. Not like light weigh/portablility is a factor. What does it actually do? No noise and super duper squeaky clean? I suspect the pennies would be better spend on a beasty cab. escholl
pick up a wreck of a preamp on ebay. PSI is the guitar one. I think it would be pretty much the same as using my pedal sansamp wouldn't it? Looking out for an SVP, but also considering cloning some simple classic valve head preamp. doctorbass
or do what i did, pull one of the valve channels out of a 1960's era reel to reel tape deck -- Ha! I had this set up as a teenager on top of a homemade 2x15 - happy days!
