EBS TD 650 problem

I have the above amp,when the volume is turned down and i'm setting the peak gain level i hear a faint distorted signal when i pluck a string.It goes when i turn the volume up.I can also hear when i plug my lead in with the standby on[i.e.blue light off]?Shouldn't do these things.... any ideas?

leakage via the power supply nothing to worry about.

cheers,ebs said it might be a pot not earthed to the chassis properly.i'll let you know! :0)
