jasperok Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The output section of my trace head is buggered Using the DI out to a poweramp as a stop gap The level is quite low though - is there any small box i could buy to boost the signal (with no distortion)?? Quote
Huge Hands Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I assume this is because your head is out-putting at mic level and your poweramp wants a line-level input. Does your trace not have a pad switch next to the DI socket? (IIRC, some amps do). Does your Trace have working effects send/receive sockets? Perhaps you could try using the send socket? I'll probably get flamed by the electronics pros for saying this, but if it's just for noodling, as a "bodge" you could try plugging your guitar straight into the poweramp. This should be a slightly stronger signal level than your DI socket. Quote
jasperok Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 No pad switch unfortunately its a rack unit power amp with xlr in - so couldnt plug in unless i go bass - pedals - DI box with line level out Is there a Di box with line level out aswell as mic level out? Quote
BassBod Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Sansamp (newer versions) give you the option to boost the jack output, but I don't know if you can boost the XLR as well? Why not fix the Trace..may not cost much? Quote

I have the ser.7 AH250SMX, which has XLR DI on the back.. took me a couple of years of struggling with plugging that into stage boxes and not getting a good signal before I finally asked TE about it.. not actually a balanced output! They supplied a transformer and instructions.. spot on and I still have it after 16 years! If it breaks I'll get it fixed. Quote

It works, but your level still to low for decent output power. For a while I used a Boss TM3 Line Driver and this indeed gave me enough signal to drive the poweramp direct. There must be similar units available today. Quote
