Beautiful-looking Original Series. Do you still have it?

I do and if I've got any say in the matter I'm not parting with it! It's the best bass I've had for both live & studio work. I'm playing it on this EP http://vetobroadway.bandcamp.com

I don't blame you, but it was worth a try ;-)

Is yours active or passive, BTW? It also looks like the single-pickup version. Is that correct?

A sister for my rather beat up black original. I was amazed at the range of tones - to the point of checking that it was really passive, big difference from the all mahogany black one.

Love the black one! There's something about that shape in that colour that oozes coolness.
My new OW is going to be a five-string fretted Original Series in translucent black.

Just picked up this beauty from Overwater yesterday. Build thread.

Mmm, tasty, those guys are just so good!
Nice bits of wood, put together just so, no need for bling.
The quality goes in before the name goes on..

That is the standard placement for the Scott Devine models. It give the back pickup a bit more body to the tone than those that are closer to the bridge. Bit like Gary Willis' bass. Front pickup is moved back a little as well. 33" scale as well.

Something I still have to think about. Front = neck, back = bridge. Don't ask why as I have no idea. :)

Which is why I asked. To me front = bridge and back = neck. Seems much simpler to call them neck and bridge depending on what they are nearest to. No confusion that way.

Can't argue with that.

Thanks to all for the lovely pics - made me smile :).

Will post pics of mine when I get around to it* (a Progress 5, J5 Classic and a Perception fretless 5 I used to own).

*When I've taken nice enough pics and worked out how to upload :gas:.

For those of you not subscribed to Scott Devine in any way here is an interview he has done with a man who apparently makes basses.

Beautiful example. Looks like you've gone for a slightly wider string spacing than Scott. Is that the case?

No. Same spacing as Mr. Devine, 16.5mm. Very comfortable to play on a fiver. Somehow for me 16.5mm looks a bit odd on a four string so I'm happy with 19mm on a four.

I know what you mean when it comes to four-strings. As far as fives are concerned, I tried Scott's bass at the Overwater London Bass Day a couple of years ago, but the spacing was slightly too narrow for me, so I'm going with 17mm on my new Original Series. I wanted to post a pic of it here, but I keep receiving an error message that I've exceeded my 30MB limit, despite the file being a lot smaller.
