I’m after recommendations for a new preamp as I think there is something better sounding than the East preamp that’s in it. Any suggestions? Aguilar? I got the Glockenklang 2-band. Fitted by the very talented Jon Shuker, who also levelled and cleaned the frets, cleaned the board and gave it a good set up. Very pleased with the preamp. My bass just sounds better, wonderful even. mike f Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) 2001 Ltd Edition Thumb BO. Sometimes, only sometimes, “the one that got away” swims straight back into your net. I bought this bass in 2003, brand new (despite its year). Gigged with it loads in London, recorded an album.., and then traded it in 2011/12 (not sure) for a Stingray. It quickly went to the top of the list in my head of basses I’d wished I’d never got rid of. And then… it appeared up for sale , on Facebook, this week. Mind blown, messages sent and received, confirmation made, bass purchased. I am so happy. And it’s the beautiful beast of a bass that I remember and with 12 years or so having passed, an instrument I can now appreciate more and make sound even better. Machines Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Recently acquired 2007 Corvette Taranis. Great price, excellent condition and also sub 9lb. I was going to add a 3-way switch like the Jazzman but after experimenting with the single coil options by just unsoldering coils, I prefer it stock. Edited December 2, 2024 by Machines 7 Quote

dub_junkie Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 16.5mm (which I don't mind/in fact quite like on this bass) Quote
Bagman Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 that's a lot too close for me but the instrument looks lovely Quote
VTypeV4 Posted Saturday at 22:20 Posted Saturday at 22:20 I put a bit of time and effort into bringing my Streamer LX back to top-notch condition this week. It's had a thorough clean, a fret / hardware polish and several coat / buffs of wax plus there'll be a new set of strings on it too in the next few days. It doesn't see that much action these days as I'm nearly always on a Jazz or the Status but it's still a truly fantastic instrument in every way. 7 Quote

I had to wait about 5 weeks for the Streamer to arrive as there wasn't one available to the spec required so whilst it's was a 'normal spec', (back in 2001 when you had a Warwick, it was just that with no 'custom shop' or 'team built' monikers) they literally had to make it new for me. The Warwick is also only one of a couple of basses I bought blind without trying it first. To this day, I've still never played a 'bad' Warwick. The only thing I've ever had to do with the it was to fit a replacement jack socket. 1 Quote

The amount of times I've read of folk waffling on about 'rare' or pre Custom Shop basses and one off Ltd Ed basses but back in the late 80's and 90's you told the dealer what you wanted and they made it. If you wanted a SSI bass with SD JJ pups (as per SSII), you asked; if you wanted a Dolphin with yin/yan inlays, you asked. They wouldn't retool a whole production line to do something but putting in different pups, preamps or inlays was just normal. Saying that, most folk bought whatever off the shelf bass was in the shop/store (normally at a discount). 1 Quote

At the time, there were a few Warwicks in the shop (Academy of Sound, Hanley, Stoke on Trent) but no 5-string Streamers. A phone call or two by the staff in the shop secured the required spec so £1065 and 4/5 weeks later.. And here we are 24 years later. ❤️ 4 Quote
