Clarky Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) In the later stages of his career Jaco played with then-young gypsy jazzer Bireli Lagrene, an absolute master of the gu*tar and oft-lauded heir to Django. Here is Bireli Lagrene doing a spookily similar impersonation of a Jaco fretless groove (just ignore the annoying saxophonist). Amazing facility and stamina Turn off immediately if you don't like Jaco or fretless! WinterMute Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Lovely, he's quoting Jaco's work all the way through that, as is the sax actually. Ala Joni Mitchell, Shadows and Light. Quote
WHUFC BASS Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Bireli Lagrene is one seriously talented musician. Quote
risingson Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Great playing, but definitely a complete Jaco clone! Quote
Mike Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 But in this case I suspect that was kind of the point! Quote

In this case, it's UY_wH15a7C0, so you just put

which gives you Ta da! Nice grooving, by the way... Quote

Had long wondered howthis was done. PS, there's another clip on YouTube (won't bore everyone with it) which shows just show prodigiously talented BG is/was - it shows him at age 12 playing a Django standard in a typical gypsy jazz band, then jumping on to upright bass for the bass solo before resuming lead guitar duties. Some (stupendously lucky) people are just born with it Quote
