I'm up for a string change on the Shine and Aston (Electro-Acoustic) now. The Shine has got some random nylon wound black things currently (great sound but never want to play them again) and the Ashton has standard bronze acoustics on.

I've normally run Rotosound as I quite like them, in the heaviest gauges that I can get.

But I'm up for a change (although don't like Ernie Balls) so thought I'd see what you lot thought.

Not sure where the band situation is going at the moment, but it could be anywhere between Sigur Ros style and full on rock.

I'm seriously considering a bass synth pedal too, as well as a bit of distortion and, although self taught, am getting worryingly into chord type structures...

So that's where I am/am going.

What makes do you guys like and why? What would you recommend?

I like Elixirs- I use .40- .125 gauge on my 5 strings. Enough beef on the low end, nice and easy to set up and they last for ages. If they did a high F I would use them on the 7 string as well.

I've just put some D'Addario XLs on one Jazz and some Elites on there other, both sound good! Got them from http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk - ordered on Wednesday and they arrived on Thursday, great service!

D'addario XL 45-105 Nickel on the Jazz. Long lasting, great tone.

Rotosound Swing 45-105 Steel on the Precision. Great attack and tone but don't last as long as the D'addarios and feel as rough as a badgers arse.
