matt_citizenbass
i have had my soundcity head for ages but it hasn't had power amp valves in it until the other day. immediatly i fell in love with its tone and its power. the only problem is its ridiculously noisy like, so unbelievably impractical. i would never be able to record clean parts on this amp. i think it may be a factor of: a) me only playing the amp in completly silent rooms, in a normal gig atmosphere i don't think it'll be noticable i have the treble and presence on a high setting is there anyway i'd be able to maybe calm down the buzz in anyway? i don't think a noise gate pedal will do it because as soon as i switch it on it immediatly starts buzzing. thanks, Matt
umph
its normally hum that they have problems with, buzzing sounds like it could do with a bit of a servicing
matt_citizenbass
well it is hum i guess. it's just extremely loud. i'm not too fussed about it now cause i like the live shows to be as noisy as possible but for recording i'll have to sort something out... but any suggestions are still welcome! umph
you could add a hum balance pot to the heater supply which helps also due to the active tone stack it picks up alot more noise than your average amp so you could also swap the tone stack out for something a bit different, also the resivour caps might need changing if their still original
Kiwi
Maybe get the caps looked at by a tech? If they've dried out then they could be the cause and will need replacing. I had a similar thing with one of my Burmans.
skankdelvar
Sorry if this seems a bit of an egg-sucker, but was the amp re-biased when the new valves went in? But as Kiwi says, maybe it just needs a service...
