horribleman Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm rubbish at dialling in bass tones. I have an active jazz bass with aguilar preamp and nordstrand jazz pickups and a boss bass cube. I love the tone this guy gets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KjOhoH0dY4 Also in their heavier stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrGu6hkgno4 Just some tips on what frequencies to cut / boost etc to get me started would be lovely Quote

I tried to emulate a certain bass player recently, and the most significant change in sound was when i actually got some decent large heavy cabs. Anyway, i am a fan of opeth, i reckon the bassist uses a pretty flat EQ, with low mids boosted a little but the high end rolled off. Again i think alot of it is to do with some decent cabs. Quote
horribleman Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Could be yeah, the sound is lovely and rounded if that even means anything. I'm never going to get some massive cabs as far as I know, just starting out and want to play along with the guys and gals I really like. Quote

RhysP Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Martin Mendez is a great player & Opeth are a superb band. According to the Opeth website he uses Fender TB- 1200 amps & Fender 8x10 cabs. His basses are mainly Fender Marcus Miller Signature Jazz basses. Quote
