Steve A
Hello, I am an experienced bass teacher (and touring/recording musician) who's been teaching in Birmingham for the past 15 years. I concentrate on teaching the fundamentals of music and the essentials of bass playing. You don't need fancy techniques in order to play well and get good gigs... you need a solid foundation: Good time feel, a developed sense of musical hearing, understanding of your options which will enable you to make good choices regarding notes, rhythms and phrasing (which comes from analysis of musical styles and the music of other bass players and other instrumentalists). Understanding the basics of harmony is actually not as hard as you might think. The hard part is committing to a routine of personal practise outside the music lesson to get the concepts in your mind and under your fingers. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing for a number of years, I can help you to develop as a player. My experience as a working musician means I understand what is required on the gig, beyond the mechanics of notes and technique. I teach all ages from 10 to adult. I offer regular fortnightly lessons or a less regular schedule to suit, depending on your commitments. Find directions and info here: http://www.timtandlerdrumschool.co.uk/ and check out my own website http://www.steveamadeo.com ***Lessons take place at Tim Tandler Drum School, opposite PMT (professional Music Technology) in Birmingham, every fortnight on a Monday, daytime or evening*** Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements. Best regards, Steve ***Work on developing the fundamentals, develop a stronger sense of harmony and strengthen your own creativity by increasing your understanding. What you hear on recordings or in your mind need not be a mystery!*** Edited March 16, 2011 by Steve Amadeo

doctor_of_the_bass
As a fellow pro player/teacher, I would fully recommend Steve - I've seen him play and he's very very good, and most importantly, a really nice bloke! Bit like me but based in Brum!!! Hope you are keeping well m8! Cheers Nick

Loving it thanks!! Getting a very natural sound from the set-up. You can hear the bass here on a recent gig in Cardiff. tredders
I'd heartily recommend anyone considering lessons to go and see Steve. I'd been playing on and off for 20 years, been in several bands, and was an 'OK' bass player. However, I was frustrated with certain aspects of my playing (specifically my fingering and speed), and knew I could be better. I spoke to Steve, and have been having lessons for the last couple of months, working specifically around what I wanted to achieve. As a result, my playing's improved to the extent that I can now comfortably play songs that I couldn't manage before. I'm also much more comfortable in a band / gig / jam environment, as I'm more confident with my own playing. As Steve says above, he's helping me develop as a player. I Just wish I'd done this 20 years ago! Mark.
jakenewmanbass
I'll just add a word of recommendation here, Steve depped for me on a function and was reported by the band as having done "an awesome job", add that to the feedback he's getting for his teaching abilities and it's got to be a good bet. morsefull
I just took the plunge and booked my first lesson with Steve.( I thought it was about time I learned about what I've been doing. ) A big step for me as I've been playing on and off for 30 years. I must say I'm rather looking forward to it.
morsefull
I had my first lesson with Steve today and really enjoyed it. He's easy going and certainly Knows his stuff. I felt both challenged and inspired to learn. Let's hope this is the start of a new chapter in my bass life .
Dash
Just wanted to add that I also had a lesson with Steve this week. I'm a newbie to this bass playing malarky. Steve was great - really helpful and good at explaining stuff. Also he's a really nice guy. I would happily recommend him to others. I've already booked my next lesson! Steve A
Just a note to say I've put together an edited version of some rehearsal sessions for a band I was in a couple of years ago if you'd like to have a listen to some of my playing. Hope you like it! Steve Edited February 5, 2010 by Steve Amadeo
tredders
The new Birmingham venue for lessons is fantastic. Dangerously close to PMT music (just over the road), and the studio is great, so it makes a fab musical afternoon. Oh, and lots of free parking outside, too. Nice to crank the bass up to gig levels without worrying the neighbours as well!
