For no particularly good reason, I tried to scribble down all the makers I could think of, that make basses that closely follow Leo's iconic Jazz Bass design.

These are they...

BACCHUS
BLADE
CELINDER
FODERA
KEN SMITH
LAKLAND
MIKE LULL
MODULUS
NORDSTRAND
SADOWSKY
SANDBERG
SHUKER
SEI

I'm sure I've left out a few outside of the original Fender stable. So, please post up any I've not listed. A Boy needs lists :)

NB: Please exlude Squire, Fender, plus all entry-level cheapies that sell new at below Squire retail.

Alleva Coppolo (sp?).

edit- How close we talking? F-Bass do a rather nice take on it which I'd say is pretty faithful.

Lowend
STR (bit of an odd headstock thing going here though!)
Dingwall
Elrick NJS
Xotic (have you seen the 'half-burst' finish, really quite funky?)

Thanks. I can't trace the Alleva Coppolo (website down?) but regarding the F-Bass; it's a nice bass really, but not close enough for describing as a Jazz in my humble opinion. The headstock just isn't faintly resembling a Jazz.

NB: I'm not trying to find dead ringers, but close enough for mistaken identity will do!

Is that a maker or an exclamation?

Boy, I've got some research ahead of me.

(Balances that "wish I hadn't asked" thought with "wow, I'm gonna learn so much googling these weird names")

Working fine for me Phil - try this link to the 5 string pages:

Maybe it's because they don't have the www?

Schecter did a jazz bass for a while, not sure if it is still in production though.
