lukeward2004
Hi Guys and Gals, I have recently got my mits on a Bass Pod XT Pro, which I am planning on using live into a poweramp, eventually into a Tech ND410 but for the time being into a Hartke 410XL. I need a suitable power amp that will allow me to run into an 8ohm cab, and when i get the cash together to get the Tech 410, ill be looking at 2 x 8ohm cabs, thus running at 4 ohms total. I have a budet of around £200-£400, what can you suggest? Cheers Luke
neilb
Mackie make reliable p/amps. They do a budget line called "Juice", made by Tapco. Very good value and they go down to 2 OHMS IIRC. bassbloke
This falls right in the middle of your budget. Soundtech PS802 400 Watts into 4 Ohms, 230W into 8 Ohms stereo or 800W into 8 Ohms mono bridged They're very very light. I used to own one and didn't rate it - it didn't seem to do much through my SWR Triads, but in hindsight, I think that was more a shortcoming of the cabs which seemed very voiced towards an SWR amp and flapped through anything else. lukeward2004
Hmm - the Tapco J-2500 looks like a good buy..... any other suggestions...
Dood
Yamaha P5000 or P7000 from SoundsLive mate. For a really flexible amp with more connections and functions, you can't go wrong. They are only 12Kg too, which makes them a very light non D-Class. I highly recommend the crossover on it as you can filter out everything below what your cabinet cant produce.. thus giving you far more volume and less speaker 'farting'. I'd still have mine if powersoft hadn't landed on my GAS-o-meter!!
Steve Woodcock
At the very top end of your budget you might be lucky and score a used Crest CA9. Excellent power amp for bass, though it weighs a ton...
Owen
Try here http://www.gearonline.co.uk/gearlist.htm Also the Yamahas Dood suggested look great P7000s in the above link new for £410 P2500s in sounds live new for £233! It does 1.3Kw bridged into 4 ohms. Whether that is RMS is not clear though.
