henry norton Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Here's a link to a guy in Nottingham making 1000 watt valve amps. 1000w valve amp He's using just 4 813 transmitter valves as opposed to the 20 or so 6L6s you'd need if you were to use 'ordinary' valves. I'm surprised we haven't seen more manufacturers going down this road. The only downside seems to be the rather frightening 2500 volts on the anodes but having said that, 400 volts will kill you just as dead.... Quote
Badass Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I can hear him testing it now, and I'm in Cornwall ! Quote
JPJ Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 So that explains why our lights keep dimming at home. He's firing this monster up and its pulling down the national grid Quote
51m0n Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Thats a very expensive way to toast bread though..... Quote
bigjohn Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Chambino knows the score. He used to be a bass player himself. Not sure in which band, but that's why he's into big valve amps. Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Umph knows that guy, I've spoken to him on the phone, he is mental. Gonna send my amp to him for a rebuild at some point. 1000w of valves = Doom. Quote

Marky L Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Blimey! Not only would that cause your ears to bleed, but I imagine every other orifice too! Quote

Shockwave Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 How much does he charge for one of these monsters? Quote
Hamster Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I don't care. I want one. I think being surrounded by all the metal objects from a room full of punters in a sort of swirling electromagnetic maelstrom is pretty cool Quote

OK, so my body hair fell out and I grew an extra testicle but so what......... Quote
Marky L Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) I do like the fact that he has used a pack of ropey brand budget fags for the guide to size! Hmmm.. I hope the rest of the components aren't budget brand.. As for getting a new boiler.. man you wouldn't need one with that. Can you imagine the heat that thing is going to bang out at full bore?? Just plumb up your central heating to it and you have the perfect excuse for blasting it out in those wintery evenings Edited July 9, 2009 by Marky L Quote
