Elixir strings + alcohol pipe

Hello fellow basschatters

My Ibanez SR505 came with a set of elixir strings that werent too bad for the first few months, but eventually developed muddiness in the 5th and 4th strings.
Has anybody ever tried the alcohol pipe method to clean elixir strings? Did it work at all?
