Happy Jack
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1965-Hofner-Violin-B...%3A1%7C294%3A50 He's got a £750 BIN on this bass, which needs a neck re-set (very, very common on these basses, and nothing to worry about). His estimate of £100 to get this sorted is ball-park, probably not out by much at all. It wouldn't then be worth £1500 (not in today's market anyway) ... but it will be in a few years. If you're looking for a vintage Hofner that's also a decent investment, you could do a lot worse than this one. Happy Jack
Someone got it for £700 - that's a seriously good price. Anyone here?
Bassassin
I don't know much about Hofners, but the Literacy Police spotted this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hofner-Electric-Base...emZ300331628017 Might be worth keeping an eye on if you're in the Midlands... Happy Jack
That's a 1961/62 Hofner Solid Bass (Selmer no. 296). The single pickup version was slightly rarer than the twin. That bass shares a lot of DNA with the original Model 182/E1 sold in the market down in New ... sorry, I mean sold in those markets where Selmer didn't hold the franchise. This example would originally have had a huge and hideous rectangular bridge cover. The photo in the listing is dreadful, but it looks like this bass needs a replacement control panel and a bridge. Modern replica parts would set you back about £100 the lot. I sold one of these, broken for spares, a few months ago. The individual components sold for well over £100. Bassassin
I'd assume it was £10 from the car boot last Sunday, & he hopes he'll be able to bump it on the Bay for £50. Not getting a huge amount of attention listed like it is! J.
