Subfeeder
I'm going to get rid of my Lakland 5501 and get a 4 string Jazz Bass (any takers?) I've been thinking of a 2008/09 series American standard Jazz Bass as I have tried a couple and they seem to be very good. But thought I would ask if anyone knows of anything else I should be considering (below £1000) that's available in the UK and does the Jazz Bass thing very well. NJE
Got to say I would not go for an american standard unless you get a good deal secondhand. Personally I would go for a Jap Fender Jazz. I played a Geddy Lee at the weekend and it was unbelievably good, and was lacking in no way compared to american fenders. I also tried the new Mexican 70s Jazzes and again was very impressed and they look so good with the binding. Also worth a mention is the Marcus Miller. Its not everyones cup of tea aesthetically but again an awesome bass and you can get them very cheap secondhand.

Josh
Have a look at a Lakland Joe Osbourne or a Daryl Jones. Brilliant alternatives IMHO.
bh2
Mine of course... ...oops! Not for sale. If you don't mind the relic thing, I'd definitely go for a RoadWorn... the sunburst gets my gas going and it plays and sounds superb. £930 here in Oxford! warwickhunt
If you look hard enough you might find a used Sadowsky Metro... in fact eubassix has one for about that price!
spongebob
I'm actually looking for another Jazz to gig alongside my Ged. I've always loved the look of Ellie from Erase Errata's Jazz - can anybody tell which one it is? http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?...;albumId=446349 I've looked at the US stuff - quite pricey - especially when the MIJ appears to have a good rep. Is it only the Ged and Marcus Miller jazz's that are MIJ? No others? Must admit, I'm liking the look of the MIM classic series too. I'm just a little concerned about the stuff I've read on here about the quality. Is the classic series any better than other MIM's?
Musicman20
The new American Series Jazz Basses are mindblowing, (2008 onwards). Seriously, I took ages finding the right bass. Gorgeous tone, nice n light, the new necks and fingerboards are amazing, and excellent new cases. Other additions like tuner pegs and high mass bridge make them a good buy. I looked around for ages. I might get a Geddy as well as a gigging bass and use this more for recording and home noodling. Its very very pretty! The Tbass reviews gave me confidence that it would be good buy. Its around £130+ more than a Geddy, but you get the new case, lots of new additions, and colour choices. Geddys are GREAT though. You have to look around for the best prices. Some places charge £950+ for an American Series, but I got mine for a lot less than that. Before 08' I was waiting around and messing about testing a lot of Jazzes, and Im glad I was patient Edited July 13, 2009 by Musicman20

The bass in the pics looks like a Japanese 75 Re Issue with a retro fit Baddass.

simon1964
+1 to Sandberg, but I'm surprised there's no mention of Jon Shuker yet. petergales
I fully endorse the comments on Lakland Jazz Basses. I have a Skyline Joe Osborn with Lindy Fralin pick ups and the bass is just a pleasure to play. The controls allow you to bring the full range of tones to your playing and the build quality is superb. All this at a price more than competitive with Fender.
