mesa boogie 400+ bass amp

First time ive ever seen one of these in the flesh so to speak,heavy,most definately,looking in the back of the amp this beasts got 12 valves in it!...12 i counted them twice just to make sure.how much do they charge to replace valves on this? serious bit of kit!.

6L6 tubes used in the power stage are £50 per pair inc vat (6 pairs)
The 4 preamp tubes are £15 each (from Mesa UK)

There are cheaper alternatives as others will tell you (Harma etc), but I haven't been down that road yet.

Aye it does have one or two 'pipes' in there - The good thing being that it never really breaks a sweat. I retubed mine with a matched set from Watford Valves for about £110, so not too bad. The problem is that the tubes you buy must be matched to the fixed bias of the amp. This means choice is limited and expensive. The alternative is a non fixed bias - With my Trace, for example, you can bung in any set of four KT88s (~£50 for a matched quad) and set the bias to match, making it much cheaper..

I am sure there are bebefits to both designs that go way over my head, but my wallet is happy!

I got 12 JJ 6L6's and 4 12AX7's for 130 quid delivered from Eurotubes and it sounds fantastic much better than the Stock Mesa's Chinese tubes it came with.

There is a site called Hot Rox or somethin like that. They are pretty cheap for tubes.

Hotrox are fantastic, never bought tubes there but the customer service and delivery time has been, for me, propr gud!
