ThrashMetalJoe
Or maybe is it better to have better strings? I dont know, can you give me some suggestions please, I want to have a bass that has the tone of Mr Big.
Hot Tub
I don't really think the bass itself is that important. The set-up on the other hand, is probably critical. Disclaimer: See my sig.
3V17C
if its tapping with a Mr Big tone you want then you need a Yamaha Attitude bass!! c
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
if its tapping with a Mr Big tone you want then you need a Yamaha Attitude bass!! c
+1 or a Kubicki. On the other hand ,if you like headless then a Hohner Jack or something similar should do. If you're gonna do lots of it ,then light gauge strings are best imho
JTUK
I think a maple neck is a good start, but I don't think people realise how strong Billy Sheehan's playing is... a lot of strenght in those tapping fingers and he is able to get that into his technique and compete in a rock set-up
thisnameistaken
Get a five or six string with a relatively flat radius on the fingerboard. Ditch the low B and string it high instead. Tie a hair bobble around the first fret and learn to play a bunch of tunes that sound much better on piano. Then get a video camera and a YouTube account and become a budget superstar to other bassists on the internet, or make a living promoting gear you don't really like at trade shows. They love a bit of that. Edited July 17, 2009 by thisnameistaken
Kiwi
tapping will be easier on a graphite neck, it'll absorb less energy. Whether it gives you the tone you're looking for it another thing entirely but it might be worth considering the Status Stealth.
