MacDaddy
Get a battery charge checker thing. Mine was less than a fiver from Maplins. Palm size thing. If necessary check the batteries in the shop and show the owner/staff.
doctorbass
Where in the East End exactly? I tend to avoid most shops here..... Edited July 18, 2009 by doctorbass
jimbaby
Hi Another vote for the pound shop, I've had various brands from there and they have been OK (Maxell, Hyundai, Kodak). On the other hand I bought some from elsewhere which looked kinda like Duracell but were called Powercell, they wouldn't even light the viewfinder display in my camera, absolutely stone dead. Golchen
I tend to just get duracell. I try to keep spares at all times and I get them from a big turnover shop, usually Tescos.
Kiwi
Yeah, I always buy packs of 10 of the Procell ones, they're great. Just bought some from this seller (who's slightly cheaper than the one you linked to), though I've not used them before. I'm sure they'll be fine though! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160332996870
FWIW, this is what I do also. My sound engineer advised me that using rechargables wasn't a good idea because they have different discharge characteristics to normal batteries (ie. they lose charge very quickly rather than gradually). So I'll always end up being caught out by them on a gig, even if I test before going on stage. He recommended Procels to me and I've never looked back since. I buy them from the cheapest supplier on Ebay usually.

grumble
Bit of an extreme solution but get a job as an engineer with a certain well known telecoms company, free 9v batteries for life. Well it worked for me

alexclaber
Most rechargeables self-discharge very fast - like effectively dead in a month. The only ones that don't are Hybrios and I gather you can now get 9V ones. They really are very very good - precharged when you buy them and barely self-discharge at all.
