Clarky
Oooh - they look really proper
I have a Mono strap - the pluses compared to a Comfort Strapp are that it is much more rugged/heavy-duty and able to take stress ... and it has a cute spare plectrum compartment! The clear minus to me is that its sheer ruggedness makes it less comfortable. For example, the end part that that attaches to the top horn of my bass is virtually inflexible and squeaks as you move. Also the padded units that comprise the 'body' of the strap don't slip smoothly over my shoulder if I am adjusting the bass position. In short if its heavy duty and padded you want then this is a good option. Personally, I wish I had replaced my old Comfort Strapp with another Comfrt Strapp instead:(
Clarky
Spotted this guy on eBay, makes 4 inch wide leather straps for £42 inc postage (they are not padded though). Has lots of very good feedback http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-inch-WIDE-BEST-LEA...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Edited July 24, 2009 by Clarky
hubrad
I use an Overwater strap, now about 6 years old, with an elastic section at the neck end. Rather like the Comfort Straps, but without the reputation for breaking! Hope its long enough.
Mine Levy's MS26strap just turned up (black of course). Very nice. I had to extend it almost all the way out but thats not a problem. I like the fact that i now have somewhere to hook my radio transmitter as well. In the past i find it tends to pop off some thicker nylon straps. It feels nice and soft, not too wide, and curls up a lot smaller in my gig bag. very pleased. Edited July 29, 2009 by dave_bass5

There are a couple of copies available that seem to be inferior from what I have seen. The Comfort Strapp is a patented product and some of the copies infringe this copyright. If you have purchased a Comfort Strapp from Bass Direct that has failed please let me know as I will replace it - providing you return the strapp to me with proof of purchase from Bass Direct. The Mono straps are stiffer and the ends are more suited for strap locks IMO. M PS I have used my Comfort Strapp for 4 years and it has done hundreds of gigs and still looks like new! Bit pricy at about £20 but not too bad I guess. I love the look of their gig bags too, but they are way out of my budget! I'm going on a few comments on here, but on closer inspection they are talking about some of the copy versions. No mentions of hassle with the original Comfort Strapps. The only strap I ever had fail myself was a nylon webbing which was fixed to the leather end with 2 rivets. Built to fail, and it did just that half way through a dance. Not using that design ever again! I still personally rate the Overwater, especially as a sciatica sufferer, but I'm always open to suggestion or trials.. maybe we should start a strap loan thread so we can each try these things without the outlay for multiple new straps? thepurpleblob
Got my Overwater strap from Music Rooms the other day. It's not the prettiest thing in the world and I would like to have seen metal fixings rather than plastic for the money. However, it's all very solid and purposeful looking. It has *lots* of padding so I'm very optimistic. I'll see how it holds up during a gig.
Rich
I've had my Comfort Strapppp for about 10 years now. Fabulously comfortable, even with 10lbs of Wal hanging off it. If I ever need to get a replacement, I shall buy another Comfort Strapppppp without hesitation. And I don't care how it looks.
plumbob
You might aswell have this link http://www.hellforleather.tv/component/opt...tpage/Itemid,1/ not cheap but think xmas present. I know Martin , and he's told me I need his Guy Pratt bass strap after he saw me struggling with mine, I just keep forgetting to give him the measurements . He's been doing this stuff for years so it will be good stuff, he's also a bass player himself.
tredders
After years of using leather straps, I ordered a Comfort Strapp yesterday, and it arrived today. I have to say that it's great! Seriously comfy and doesn't look terrible (which was my fear when I'd seen them on websites before).
