Clarky
Hey Chris, think this is the man http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/ Also MIJFenders import but carry a narrower range http://www.mijfenders.com/
Cat Burrito
Also MIJFenders import but carry a narrower range http://www.mijfenders.com/
I emailed MIJ Fenders explaining I was ready to buy - no reply so I phoned MIJ Fenders & spoke with the guy. He was going to call me back. That was about 6wks ago. Go with Guitar Emporium. I was seriously unimpressed with MIJ Fenders. Perhaps he doesn't want polite customers with money to spend? Not to worry, I won't be troubling him again! Ditto Guitarshogan. I've been playing MIJ Fenders for 20yrs and right now there seem to be a couple of companies out there that don't want business or lack the basic courtesy to explain they have stock problems or whatever the issue was. A shame as MIJ Fender basses are really great. Edited July 20, 2009 by BurritoBass
Beedster
Thanks guys, thought I'd check out a few. Didn't realise they were so expensive! Still, lovely instruments. Hoped to see something exciting on the fretless PJ front. Always was a long shot! Very tempted by a few of those reissues though Chris
LukeFRC
far east guitars. guy in essex, I emailed him saying what i wanted and he got back to me a few weeks later when he found one. http://www.fareastguitars.co.uk/ i recomend
LukeFRC
although I think I read somewhere fender japan just stuck their prices up, add to that the weak pound and it is quite expensive now. A couple of years back my second hand '57 RI (US version) which had had the jack and pots upgraded but was in pretty much perfect condition cost me £430 or so from far east guitars - that same guitar now? i would guess £630 from far east guitars, or new £739 on guitar emporium. Now I sold it this year for £400, so I would suggest secondhand (depending on what you are after). £739 seems a bit steep compared with my '57 RI Fender logoed JV Squier which I bought secondhand for £650.... Having played a new MIA '57 RI at the weekend I would say the MIA and my old CIJ were not too dissimilar. Better neck and finish on the body on the CIJ, better (more period correct) hardware on the MIA. The JV beats them both hands down. what you after? a friend is trying to sell a MIJ 88/89 sunburst P bass for about £300-350, (ive not seen it yet btw)

Beedster
Thanks, spoke to him this morning and I think he has had other things to deal with. Back on track next week apparently Chris
simon1964
Another option for Japanese Fenders is the Stratosphere ebay shop. He actually sells parts, but you can often pickup up Jap loaded bodies and necks on there and bolt the two together! I've bought from him in the past and delivery is pretty quick. The prices used to be very good, but with the pound weaker against the dollar, they're admittedly a bit less competitive now.
dlloyd
There's also Ishibashi. They won't sell new instruments to the uk, but have a large stock of used Fenders. Very polite emails, put basses 'on hold' while I considered which one I wanted, and packed the bass extremely well for international freight. My only quibble was that it took a couple of weeks to get the bass after I paid, when I am sure I could have received it a little quicker (some of the delay, to be fair, was good old UK Customs and Excise). I would recommend though.
