JBassist Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 is the Proper slap technique when you have a fist and yoyr thum facing towards you or is it when you have an open palm and thumb facing down which 1 should i practise thanks Quote
51m0n Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Whatever works best for you. Really, has a lot to do with how low/high you 'sling yo ting' too, a low slung bass requires a more FLea like hand pos, a higher slung one and you aim more Wooten. If I had to suggest which I felt gave more options (and so is marginally more 'proper') I'd say up higher, thumb upwards hand in a relaxed fist ready to pop with 1,2 or 3 fingers, or double thump ie Wooten, King stylee... Doddy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'd suggest having the thumb pointing up towards you or perpendicular to the string. I find you can be more accurate this way. If you point your thumb down(Flea style) you will, for arguments sake,be hitting, say, the E string while slapping the A,as your thumb will be in a position where this is unavoidable. Playing perpendicular to the string allows you to play each string cleanly. Quote
