lateralus462 Posted July 26, 2009 Share Posted July 26, 2009 I am looking to find a long thumbrest, Kind of something to be similar to the ramps that Tim Commerford and Juan Alderete use but more like the Fender style thumbrests so it can sit above the pickup - (probably needs to be about the distance from the back of the bridge pickup to the front of the neck pickup on a Jazz bass). Reason is, I am really struggling with my right hand on my stingray, as resting my thumb on the pickup causes my hand to cramp up after a short while of playing- I have realised this seems to be because of the realtively small gap from the top of the pickup to the E string, as opposes to the larger gap on my Ibanez and Jazz Basses, both of which I have no problems playing for hours at a time. Add in to which my almost pathalogical desire to play nearer the neck, and I end up 2 options - Sell the bass, which I don't really want to do (I struggled/still struggle a bit with the neck profile on this bass as well, but I like the sound sooooo much I've perservered and am starting to get used to it) or find a solution, which adding a thumbrest seems to be. So what I am looking for HAS to be made out of wood - I intend to countersink screws in to the back of the scratchplate so I can attach it from behind to save drilling holes in the bass - that way all I have to do if I ever to decide to sell is whack on the spare scratchplate I have to get it back to normal again.
