BigRedX
John Birch as a brand are still going although obviously the man himself is no longer involved. Their current website was in my original list of UK luthiers, however it's latest incarnation doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence about the seriousness of this venture. I've played a couple of the new guitars and wasn't too impressed with them TBH. Haven't yet managed to try a bass, although do fancy the look of their Rickenfakers... Not at all impressed with the Bailey Guitars web site. There is at least one bass on there but it's not exactly easy to find. Maybe someone should give them some advice on how to build a user-friendly site. Edited July 28, 2009 by BigRedX

grahamd
It's worth pointing out that the Bailey Bros, whilst not actally luthiers, do do great setup/fretjobs and general guitar maintenance
BarnacleBob
Good point, there - i think it's safe to say that, for most of us, contact with a luthier will be more for ongoing maintenace etc rather than our full blown dream custom. I dont think my plan of collecting one from each builder is going to happen now (unless me balls come up ) I think we are hitting well over 60 makers at the mo' And if i restricted it to a BritBass I would miss out on lots of lovely stuff I GAS for usually BB Now I wonder if as a collective we have an example of every one........
