fede162162 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Hello everybody, as the headline suggests I'm looking for a compact preamp which in order of importance 0) has at least the XLR output 1) can drive a Power Amp --edited-- =D 2) has a great sound 3) is especially good on clean sounds 4) lays in the up to 200 pound zone 5) couples a 1/4'' output to the XLR one 6) is powered by both 9v battery and power supply Of course I'm open to suggestions which don't satisfy all the points. I don´t dislike warm tuby sounds. my Power Amp (soundtech ps 802) has 10k ohms of Imput impedance and +4dbu (1.23v) imput voltage any suggestion? Edited July 27, 2009 by fede162162 Quote
wateroftyne Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Can it be a pedal? If so, EBS Microbass II pushes all the buttons! Quote
obbm Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Possible confusion of terms. By using the the acronym PA do you mean a Power Amp to drive your speakers or do you mean the Public Address (front of house sound reinforcement and monitoring system) which is more normally referred to as the PA? Quote
Silent Fly Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) (I hope I am not breaking any forum rule recommending one of my products. If I do, please delete this post.) We make a DI-preamp that is very transparent. It should tick almost all the boxes. Probably, the only requirement that is not covered is that it doesn't work with 9V batteries. If you like the sound of tubes, Dave Hall produces great boxes that should cover your requirements. Edited July 27, 2009 by Silent Fly Quote

zero9 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Try a Phil Jones Bass Buddy. ticks all the boxes but pushes the price up around £220 new (but worth it IMO). As a bonus, it will also drive a speaker (to give 10 Watts output). Good luck Wil Quote
fede162162 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 to Silent Fly: I already have a Custom italian Preamp, now I´m looking for a back up branded preamp To zero 9: I had the PJB M500 head, really great stuff, but I slighty preferred the sound of my preamp, so I sold the PJB and bought a cheaper power amp. I assume the PJB Buddy has the some sound of the head.. EBS Microbass is really catching my attention indeed! I´m looking out on the bc market! Quote
Mottlefeeder Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Another possibility is the Fishman PRO-EQ Platinum Bass. It has a 5 band graphic, compression, and a variable frequency high pass filter for getting rid of floor boom etc. Output via XLR at -30dBu and unbalanced Jack up to +10dBu. It is designed for piezo pick-ups on an acoustic bass, but works with conventional bass too. Second hand price ~80GBP Quote
harryharold Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 i've got the aguilar tonehammer which will fill your criteria, though will run on 2 9v batteries not 1. great aguilar tone and you can easily pick one up for less than £200. Quote
