arabassist Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Hoi Hoi Who here can reccomend me a bassline to learn for someone who wants to get into a bit of funk/jazz/blues (anything with lots of fingerpicking and slides and stocatto and uplifting general coolness). The only lines i know of that count as 'funk' would be the flea's stuff - and that involves a lot of slapping which i don't like doing anymore. I think, as a bassist who needs to evolve it should be good to leave behind the RHCP, RATM and Muse basslines and step into something more old skl and well.....funky....and happy. So far i've heard some Jaco stuff.....i dont know anyone else to look into, so i need your guidance! (pretty please) Edited July 27, 2009 by arabassist Quote

Stingray5 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 +1 to Tower Of Power - particularly 'What Is Hip' & 'Don't Change Horses In The Middle Of A Stream'. Oh, in fact, just listen to anything with 'Rocco' Prestia... Quote

All sorts of levels of difficulty and tempos on there from what I can see Not sure if it's on Spotify or not as I'm on a mobile at the moment. Definitely one to check out Quote
davidmpires Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Jamiroquai all the way. Canned heat Mr Moon If I like it I do it Cosmic Girl Too you to die to name but a few. Also I really like to play electronic stuff like, Daft Punk, Moloko or Gorillaz there's always great bass lines and once you get the hang of it you can always add your own flavour. Quote
Peaty Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If its funky finger picking you want then give 'Hit me with your rhythm stick' or 'Spread it' by the Blockheads a try. Those will give your funk muscles a good workout. Pete Quote
Rowbee Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I would start with James Brown - especially Bootsy era like Superbad and Sex Machine, plenty of room for improv. Quote
