Interface info needed

Hi All,
I'd like some suggestions for an interface for audio/midi recording for my new mac/logic set up. So far I have had Edirol mentioned to me. I have a focusrite octopre which will be serving a few nice valve condensers. I will be looking to have the facility to record drums at some points so would like enough inputs. I like the idea of firewire.
any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Jake

I have this set up and am running MOTU 828MK2 interfaces....... I believe there is a MK3 version now but all I will say is they perform wonderfully with no Latency issues at all. They also have decent Mic Pre's built in if you need to record without a channel strip or desk.

I have a Mac and Logic and use a Presonus Firepod - 8 xlr ins with 2 firewire ports, so I daisychain it with an external hard disk and my laptop (which only has one firewire port) for a portable location-recording setup. Recorded one album (Red Jackson - guitar/drums/upright trio) with it so far, and very happy. I think it's been replaced with something a bit better.

Hi Jake,

Check out this link http://www.recordingreview.com/soundcard/s...card_wizard.php. It will ask you a ton of questions about what you need in an interface, and then offer you advice on what is available.

I have a focusrite saphire, but if i had the money i'd probably go for rme fireface 400 http://www.dv247.com/invt/33022/.

Cheers

Keith

The MOTU if you can afford it, and then add the Focusrite Octa pre (with the optical interface) for another 8 or 16 inputs if you need them (I do).

Oddly the old Digidesign 002 rack is a good buy, as long as you have FW400, which some of the new MacBook Pros don't have. You don't need to use Protools with it and they are very reasonable off ebay.
