jazz neck on a precision bass

Recommended Posts

Before trying something that drastic, how about trying a shim? Make a template of the pocket shape out of card and cut it in two. Discard the piece that is nearest the pcikups and lay the furthest bit down in the pocket before screwing the neck back on. That way you are only raising the neck at the furthest end of the pocket when you screw the neck back on. This will tilt the neck upwards (raising the headstock) and may solve the problem. There are much better explanations (and a step by step guide I think) somewhere else on BassChat. Have you put on a perfectly straight neck??? You may have to put a bit of relief into your neck and give the truss rod a tweek. The saddles of course are a factor, but if you have no relief in the neck you are putting the horse before the cart.

I have been tweeking and swapping necks for a year or 2 now and I have received some superb advise from very knowledgeable people on this forum. Im sure they will be along shortly.

Don't panic and don't do anything too rash before you get some solid advice.

Good luck .. It will all work out

This helped me. Very straight forward, which is important as I'm from West Bromwich.

Seriously though if tou havn't done this kind of thing before be patient because you will get some great advise here.

Good luck again.

A Fender neck shouldn't actually be perfectly straight - there should be a slight relief in the neck (a very slight downward bow). If you want advice on how Fender set up their basses, they provide all the information here:
